- AquAdvantage Bred salmon, bred by Aqua Bounty Farms in December 1997 and sacrificed in July 2000. The fish contains a growth hormone transgene, which results in the hormone being produced in many tissues, all year round.;These salmon were siblings. The top, larger one was the first GM animal approved for consumption. Engineered with an added growth hormone, it grew all year round – unlike its smaller sibling, a regular Atlantic salmon, which just grew in spring and summer.
